This website showcases the work of specialist watercolour painter Stephen Ward who lives and works in the historic county of Durham. From his earliest memories right up until the present day Stephen has had a passion for painting and drawing; a passion which is evident in the work he produces today. His work couples the old fashioned virtue of strong draughtsmanship with an instinctive feel for light and colour, and it is these ablilies which enable him to bring a subject to life. These days he works exclusively in watercolour enjoying the vibrancy and spontaneity that the medium allows.
His subject matter is drawn from the landscapes and townscapes which surround him in the north east so here you will find not only an extensive range of Durham subjects (including a selection of limited editions depicting University Colleges), but also views of favourite locations further afield in Northumberland and Tyneside too.
Stephen's work has been presented to former Prime Minister Tony Blair, and best selling author Bill Bryson. He has undertaken commissioned work for HM The Queen's Lord Lieutenant (T&W) and for the TUC as well as working on numerous commissions for private clients. He has also taken part in many group and solo exhibitions including the Royal Cambrian Academy Summer Show. Navigating through the site, browsers will find a wide range of original paintings, limited edition giclee prints, greetings cards and other items by this prize-winning artist to choose from, all of which make for perfect gifts.
